Pimples on back

June 27th, 2009 Comments off

Do you have pimples on your back? Although someone’s face is obviously the most looked at place on their body, having pimples anywhere else can be embarrassing considering that they are not expected to be anywhere else.

Back pimples are harder to prevent and treat because it is harder to clean your back and it is harder to get a good view of it.

Here are a few basic tips if you want to avoid back pimples:

  1. This seems obvious, and it is, but do your very best to keep your back as clean as possible. Wash it often. Make sure that the shirts you wear are as clean as possible.
  2. Resist the urge to scratch/ touch your back with unclean hands. You have oils naturally in your hand and when you touch your back with your hands, you are predisposing yourself to more back pimples.

Here are a few tips on how to treat back pimples:

  1. Rub any proven acne gel on the back pimple at least twice a day. This will disinfect and hopefully shorten the lifespan of your back pimple[s].
  2. Try not to pop your back pimple. Popping it will not make it look any better, in fact your back could look worse after you pop your pimple, and it could leave lasting acne scars.
  3. Do not make a big deal about it. You are not the only one that gets back pimples, being awkward; trying to avoid revealing your back, being upset about it… it’s not worth it. It is likely that you are making to big of a deal about this in the first place.

Microdermabrasion acne

June 27th, 2009 Comments off

What is Microdermabrasion?

It is a special treatment many dermatologists offer that could help your acne scars disappear or become less noticeable. Basically, the outermost layer of your skin gets peeled off. Microdermbrasion has just recently become popular as an acne treatment here in the United States.

Pros:

Microdermbrasion does help acne sufferers. At the very least it will make a noticeable difference in acne and acne scars, at best it could wipe acne out all together.

It has no real health risk assuming that you are undergoing microdermbrasion treatment with a serviceable dermatologist.

It is relatively pain free.

The microdermbrasion process goes by before you know it. From start to finish one session lasts between 30 minutes and an hour.

Cons:

The obvious knack against microdermbrasion is the cost, 6 treatments can cost anywhere between $300 and over $1,000. It definitely is not a cheap acne treatment.

Microdermbrasion acne treatments are needed about once a month to maintain a healthily facial complexion; this can drain both one’s time and money.

Unless you are sure of what you are doing, try to stay away from microdermbrasion at home kits. Although these kits do run at a significant discount to actual microdermbrasion acne treatments, they are not as effective, especially when they are not used correctly.

If you’ve got enough time and cash, microdermbrasion acne treatments will be worth it, if not, look into researching other, cheaper, acne treatments.

Glycolic acid acne

June 26th, 2009 Comments off

Glycolic acid is a surprising acne fighter. Glycolic acid has a high acidity [obviously] and is easily soluble. After being applied on skin, glycolic acid goes underneath the initial layer of the skin and helps unearth dead skin cells from the skin. Dead skin cells are a vital ingredient in acne, so without them, acne is less and less of a problem.

A few things to think about:

When using glycolic acid in the fight against acne, make sure it is in small doses, especially in the beginning.

Skin damage can take place when the level of glycolic acid is greater then 10 or 15 percent, but glycolic acid is relatively safe when it makes up no more than 10 percent of an acne gel.

Glycolic acid treatments should not be daily; once or twice a week is optimal.

You do not want to keep glycolic acid on your face for very long, 5 to 30 minutes is favorable.

Glycolic acid is fairly cheap.

Overall glycolic acid can be a great way to treat acne, make sure to use it in moderation and talk to your dermatologist beforehand if at all possible.

Cystic pimples

June 26th, 2009 Comments off

Cystic pimples are the bigger, often times more painful varieties of pimples. If you have noticed that you recently got a pimple worse then usual, the chances are that it was a cystic pimple.

The bad news about cystic pimples:

  1. Cystic pimples can grow to be as large as 1 centimeter in diameter!
  2. Cystic pimples hurt more then normal pimples and are obviously more noticeable.
  3. Cystic pimples can be so bad that treatment may have to be left up to an experienced dermatologist.
  4. A cystic pimple can become infected easily.

The good news about cystic pimples:

These types of pimples are avoidable. Cystic pimples usually pop up [no pun intended] as a result of a high fat, unhealthy life style. If you make a significant lifestyle change, cystic pimples should soon disappear. This means drinking lots and lots of water, staying away from high fat, high cholesterol food [red meats in particular], and exercising. You will be able to see the benefits of healthy living in almost every facet of your life. It is not easy, but it is definitely worth it.

Sulfur acne treatment

June 25th, 2009 Comments off

You may be surprised to hear it, but sulfur can be a great acne treatment. Sulfur has been used to fight acne dating all the way back to ancient Rome!

Sulfur supports the shedding of dead skin cells, so it helps both in the prevention and treatment of acne. Sulfur is a vital ingredient of many different acne treatments. Dead skin cell block up individual pores on your face and allow acne to appear, sulfur dries the skin cells making acne harder to come about.

As I said in the paragraph above, sulfur works by drying out skin, so it should only be used in moderation. If sulfur is used in excess or by the wrong person, you can imagine what your face would look like and feel like the next morning.

You can buy sulfur for acne over the counter and try to manually concoct some sort of formula based on what some random person on the internet tells you to do, but I do not advise this. Instead, try looking at the labels of every potential acne treatment and only trying the acne treatments that have sulfur as a primary ingredient. Or, the next time you see your dermatologist, suggest sulfur as an acne treatment and gauge his or her response.
