Acne is genetic

August 7th, 2009

You can try different types of treatments, you can try to prevent your acne, you can do everything right overall, but in the end, you cannot control everything. Scientists are beginning to come to a consensus, acne is largely genetic.

This is not particularly good news when you think about it. It means that you have less control over your skin. You can, however, turn this into a plus.

Instead of complaining that you genetically get acne and there is nothing you can do about it, try taking a sensible approach. Talk to your parents, if possible, about the experiences they had with acne. Ask them what type of acne they got, how bad it was, when it was the worst, what treatments they responded best to, when their acne started to die down… The possibilities are endless.

The more you know about your parents acne situation, both when they where teens and as adults, the better you can judge your own situation. Don’t let genetics hold you back, turn the table and shift the advantage into your favor!
