Gluten and acne

August 7th, 2009

Does gluten consumption really aggrivate acne and make acne more severe? Unfortunately it seems like the answer is yes.

A high level of gluten intake can cause stomach inflammation, and that inflammation has been known to effect acne. It is a chain reaction throughout your entire body.

Gluten does not make acne worse for everyone. I recommend that you cut out gluten to the best of your abilities for a week or so, and see if your acne improves.

It can be hard to cut out all of your gluten from your diet, because gluten is so widespread! Cereals, pastas, grains, and breads are all high gluten foods. How many days have you gone without eating at least one of the foods above? Add the fact that oats, rye, and wheat are full of gluten as well and you have yourself a problem!

Simply living healthier, cutting out excess fat in your diet, drinking plenty of water… should be much more effective than trying to cut out all of the gluten from your diet, so that is always the first place that you should start.
