Accutane

August 10th, 2009

Accutane is a pill designed to help those with severe acne. It is also called roaccutane and isotretinoin by some.

Accutane was first discovered in 1979 and has rapidly become one of the most popular treatments for acne. In the begininng, it was designed for people suffering from serious acne only, but in the last decade or so, it has started to be prescribed more and more for people with mild to moderate acne.

Accutane is not the cheapest acne treatment, it isn’t the most powerful, and it does come with side effects, but it is one of the most popular acne treatments for a reason.

There is only one segment of people that I would advise to not even consider accutane, that would be pregnant mothers or women who think that they may soon be pregnant. Accutane can cause serious birth defects.

Accutane is generally taken once a day for around 15-20 weeks in a row.

If your acne is pretty serious and you think that Accutane could be a good option for you, talk to your dermatologist about it! Your dermatologist can either agree with you and get you started on Accutane treatment, or he or she can disagree and present you with other options, either way, you come out on top!
