Neutrogena wave

August 13th, 2009

There is a huge marketing campaign going on promoting the new Neutrogena wave. It is supposedly revolutionary and state of the art, however I doubt this.

In reality the new Neutrogena wave is fairly simple: You simply add a “pad”, pour water over it, and then wash your face. After your skin is somehow instantly cleansed beyond belief and your pores will thank you and you will never get any acne again. Does that make any sense? It doesn’t to me.

Neutrogena is selling this because of two things:

  1. Marketing. When you are troubled with acne and you see commercials and ads on the internet from a reputable company coming out with a revolutionary product, of course you will be interested in it and you will probably give it a try.
  2. The Placebo effect. This is where you expect something to help or hurt you, and when you do the treatment you act as if it helped you even though it likely did nothing to help your problem. You expect the Neutrogena wave to help your problem with acne, so once you buy it and use it, you’ll peg any positive changes in your acne situation to the Neutrogena wave system.
